The art ov hitch hiking in reverse

>this is an attempt at a humorous article. This is a D.I.T. project, (Do It Together)<

Anyone who has tried this knows exactly what im talking about. Its when you have rode the public transit as far from the city center as you can go and see that better spot to stand and wait another kilometer down the road. Now, never wanting to waste the chance ov a ride, you need to accomplish two things. First, make it to that 'sweet spot' where you will get picked up. Not just around the corner, fore you do not give the driver enough time to see you. Also not near a confusing intersection. You want the driver to just be accelerating, but not to fast. Give them time to look you over and have compassion. So how do you get there and also stick out your thumb when they are driving by? Reverse hitch hiking ovcourse!!! Its not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes the road is uneven with cracks in the sidewalk, gravel loose underfoot, or large shrubbery leaning into the path. All these may be quick to snag a heal as you walk backwards. When there is no traffic, its easy, you can focus on the road ahead. Looking at all obstacles in your way and avoiding them with ease. But when the sound ov that car comes up behind you, thats when you spin around, put your game-face on, and stick out that thumb. The spinning part is easy. Most backpacks are heavier than needed, just a quick twist ov the hips while walking will send you 180 degress faster than you can catch an STD. But making ground by Toe-Heel Toe-Heel method while smiling like a person who doesnt have a care in the world is not easy. So heres a few pointers. Remember that its confusing to a driver when they see someone walking near the road not wearing construction-worker clothes. Make sure you give them ample "face-time", preferably without sunglasses or a beard(note- easier for women than men). Once you hear that internal combustion engine sound, turn around(this is where having dangling objects swinging freely from your bag comes in handy) Either move away from the road or closer depending on the circumstance. Before attempting such a spinning maneuver, make sure to scan the ground ahead for obstacles. While attempting eye contact, slow your pace to let them know you are looking for a ride and not just hiking all the way. If no success, just plant one foot and swing like a monkey in a tree to get back in your original hiking position, and remember, No harm, No foul. As is the case from my experience, if a vehicle DOES stop, it is usually after they have passed. Just revert back to old hitching lessons and make haste to the car. If there is a line ov cars, it may become dangerous if you have not looked far enough ahead to make sure you dont trip on anything. As you near that special spot, just remember that its not Where you stand, but how the fates decided if you get a ride or not.
